Dwelling in the Digital Dungeon. 03/07/03
So our digital department is all moved into our new headquarters, the basement of the corner building. Still getting settled in, shuffling our workstations around, trying to figure out where they put all our supplies when they moved us down here. Not sure what I think of this place yet.
The goth in me tries to imagine it as a room in a castle. Need a chandelier for the ceiling, heavy black wrought iron with fat dripping wax candles. And attached to these bare grey concrete walls, some chains with shackles at the ends.
The sunshine-loving cat in me is freaking out, however. No windows! Even the air seems bleak and grey. Such a cold, utilitarian box to be stuck in. Need some color in here, and plants. Fake plants, at least.
This past weekend was our adventure in The City. Took the Bart train up there from the in-laws' house, walked all over Chinatown, Little Italy, Union Square, Coit Tower, Lombard St., etc. I was good and only bought one thing all day -- a pair of shoes, red satin slippers from Chinatown. Browsed BCBG and Ferragamo, and imagined myself in luxurious designer gear that I usually only see on the pages of fashion magazines. Lots of fun and pure torture at the same time.
This week has been one of utter broke-ness. As in so broke that we didn't dare take any money out of the bank, so that our rent check wouldn't bounce. But today was my payday, so we can relax a bit again. Don't know what the weekend will be like yet, tonight at least I am left to my own devices. Perhaps I will head downtown and hang out at the coffee shop. Unlikely that I will run into any of our friends, since the majority of them are at my house right now, gaming with Steve. I don’t mind too much that he holds games there sometimes, it is not frequent enough to be a real inconvenience. And I can't blame my friends for wanting to hang out in my living room. It is such a welcoming, warm, comfy place, and he makes coffee.
Mmmm, coffee. Going now in search of coffee. Hey, I can take money out of the bank now! Maybe I'll splurge on a slice of pie.
