Summer evening. 07/31/02
Just got home from work. When I was getting out of the car, I saw a small black cat 2 doors down from our house. Careful not to slam the car door too loudly, I slowly crossed the street to his driveway and knelt down, calling, "Hello, pretty little cat! Come say Hi!" He seemed curious but hesitant. "Meow?" I said, and he walked over to within a few feet of me. I reached out my hand and he backed away. "Mrrt?" he said. "Mrrt," I replied. Then I crept closer, reached out and ran my hand along his back, then scritched under his chin. But the sound of a door opening inside his house made him run away towards it. I hope they let him inside and gave him some food & attention.
It is so warm in here! I am comfortable in only a big shirt and the window is even open. The cold iced tea I am drinking really hits the spot. If Steve was home he would be overly hot. I guess being a self-heating creature would be both a blessing and a curse.
I am having trouble with food again. I’d been eating very little, not gaining weight, saving money from not getting lunch. Today I was eating bread dipped in mayonnaise, feeling justified in indulging for once and eating as much as I wanted. Soon I got bored with the bread and started eating the mayo straight. From the jar. With my tongue. "Whoa!" I thought. "Hold on. A bit of lunch is what I had in mind, not Ravenous Beast Devours Mindlessly."
So I guess I need to try harder to find a balance here. How do normal people eat? I think I'll try having breakfast tomorrow. It's been way too long since breakfast meant FOOD instead of a coffee or 44 oz. Big Gulp.
