Ghetto Gardening 2015
“I perhaps owe having become a painter to flowers.” – Claude Monet
07/24/15:
My cayenne peppers are ripening! The first 4 are ready to be picked and mailed to my Dad in Central California. (He loves spicy foods, and believes that cayenne peppers are especially full of health benefits, but has no interest in gardening, and thinks farmer's markets in his area are too expensive.) Harvest looks to be plentiful this year. I might make my own salsa from some of these peppers later this summer, combined with the roma tomatoes and other fresh ingredients.

Ripe cayenne peppers
are starting to happen.
Tomatoes aren't quite there yet.
Happy rosebush.
Since I'm paying close attention to the condition of my plants this year, I've noticed that rosebushes are happiest, growing bigger and blooming, when it's especially hot outside. I've been moderately successful at keeping bugs off the leaves with garlic-juice spray. The lawn is dying, but I think the current variety of colorful flowering plants helps the place look nice anyway. My morning glory seeds have sprouted, so I'm planning where to spread out the plants among my pots for maximum sun exposure. I took a screenshot of our house on Google Earth, and am playing with the image in Photoshop: adding overlay layers that indicate sunny/shady areas and what's planted where.
