"What is one to say about June, the time of perfect young summer, the fulfillment of the promise of the earlier months, and with as yet no sign to remind one that its fresh young beauty will ever fade."

6/13/16:
Last Thursday, I pulled the squirrel-proof netting back from my vegetable patch area to see how things were growing. It was wonderful to discover more good-sized radishes, and to observe that even the tomato seeds have now sprouted. There are a bunch of lettuce and kale seedlings in the planters; I'll need to thin these before long. The dill and fennel are still very tiny.
Clicking on the small images below will bring up a larger version.
Carefully protected sprouts.
Homegrown radishes.
Decorating pots.
I've been experimenting with decorating some of my plainer flowerpots. So far I've found that beads are easy to glue onto plastic containers. At first I used a hot glue gun, but the beads stay on better with super glue. Paints are a bit messier, but as long as I'm careful to be precise with my brushwork, the designs can look decent and not like they're done by a 5-year-old. Nail polish works well on terracotta pots, but peels right off of the plastic ones. Permanent markers ("Sharpies") are good on the terracotta, although when the pots soak up water, some of the colors bleed a little. Once I figure out what's durable enough to live outside in the hot sun and rain I can put together a decorating tutorial.
This week's post is short, since I've been diverting my efforts towards building a landing page for all these articles. This should make them easier to navigate. A main page also works better as a link on my social media profiles. I'm creating it from a responsive template, and learning a lot about modern web design techniques along the way.
