"An optimistic gardener is one who believes that whatever goes down must come up."

9/10/16:
Summer crops have gotten their fair share of attention on the blog here, my yellow roses and fuchsias have been featured several times, but there are lots of other lovely plants tucked around the edges of my container garden.
The rosebush that produces pale flowers in a range from creamy white to soft pink is now having a second bloom cycle. I've been giving all the roses alfalfa tea and it appears to work very well! The small pots of cyclamen continue to grow and develop ever-larger blooms. These can thrive in shade and sometimes even indoors all fall and winter; they're common around here as a Valentine's Day gift. I worry sometimes when they seem to rot or shrivel away completely in warmer spring weather, but most do sprout up again when the mornings get cool and misty as they are now.
Clicking on the small images below will bring up a larger version.

"Laser Rose Flame" cyclamen.
I had a peaceful morning out in the yard on Saturday. Construction on the house across the street had paused for a few hours. The sun was breaking free from a coastal fog. Cats and I were wandering around slowly, taking in the scents of rosemary and tomato leaves. I started the twice-weekly watering and found a fuzzy moth on my watering can. It flew away when I came too near (the cats weren't awake enough yet to chase it). Birds and squirrels hopped by occasionally... Recalling the satisfaction of such times and places helps me get through a work week of being at a desk inside for many hours.
