Catching up. 10/13/02

It is once again a weekend of not much happening. A chance to spend hours reading or websurfing, going for walks, downloading music, watching movies.

Been a while since we were at an SCA event. The last was Mists/Cynagua war, which I have wanted to write about sooner, before the memories blur and fade into those from so many events over the years... Things that stand out about that weekend are:

Hanging out with friends who only rarely come to events. Seeing the shield wall of Huscarls taking the field, twice as many of them as usual. Realizing that this may be the last time a wall of black & white war doors spans the horizon. Wearing my new dress and getting many compliments.  "You are such the fey creature," says a friend. "Your eyes match your dress, and your smile is like the sun," says a stranger. Discovering the delight of combining Absolut Mandarin vodka with fruit juice, and being hung over for 2 days afterwards. Forgetting everything. The film for the camera, the flashlight, my belt, the safety pins... Is that all it was? Or did I leave something out?

Well, for now the event season is over until Twelfth Night, I think. My weekends can be more relaxing than busy, but I'm starting to miss the travel. Maybe it is time to explore the place I live in, instead.

Right now I'm eating Chinese food and listening to Siouxsie & the Banshees. Might go for a walk down to the yacht harbor when the tide is out more. Steve and I went for a short hike through the redwoods yesterday. We're always trying to come up with good activities to do on weekends or weeknights that don't cost money. The best things in life are free, it's said. True -- Love, Cats, Music, Sunshine, Sleep, Dancing, Imagination, just a few... and even more that I have not yet discovered.
